The 20ft is the size most people end up with, and for good reason. It fits a standard driveway or residential lot, holds roughly what a two-car garage holds, and can be placed in spots a 40ft simply cannot reach.

For a renovation, seasonal equipment, or a business that has outgrown its back room, the 20ft is usually the right call. It needs about 70 feet of straight clearance at the drop point.

40ft Standard Container

Twice the storage of a 20ft in the same width. The 40ft standard is the working size for contractors, farms and businesses: large equipment, multiple pallets, or everything that will not fit anywhere else.

The trade is access. A 40ft needs about 100 feet of straight clearance for the tilt-bed to set it down. On a constrained lot, two 20ft units often place where one 40ft will not.

40ft High Cube Container

Same footprint as the standard 40ft, one foot taller: 9 ft 6 in outside, just over 9 ft of usable height inside. That foot changes what the box can be. You can stand fully upright, run services overhead, and fit equipment a standard container will not take.

It is the usual starting point for conversions: offices, bunkhouses, break rooms and workshops. Clearance requirement is the same as any 40ft, about 100 feet.

A modified container starts as a standard steel box and gains the parts you need: doors, windows, insulation, electrical, climate control. What comes out is a weatherproof structure that costs less than building one and can be set almost anywhere.

Which modifications matter depends on where it will sit. Insulation and ventilation are decided by climate, not preference, so tell us the site and the intended use before the specification is fixed.

Refrigerated (Reefer) Containers

A reefer is a shipping container with a refrigeration unit built into one end, holding anywhere from -25 degrees F to +70 degrees F. The insulation is part of the original build, not added afterwards, which is why it holds temperature the way a retrofitted box cannot.

Available in 20ft and 40ft. It needs a 460V 3-phase connection, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not on site. Confirm your power supply before ordering, because that is the constraint that catches people out.

Site Preparation and Delivery Clearance

Containers arrive on a tilt-bed truck. Knowing your clearance before the truck is booked is what keeps a delivery from turning into a second trip.
